ITV This Mornings Andi Peters makes awkward dig at Mollie Kings music career

Andi Peters left Saturdays singer Mollie King shocked after he made a cheeky dig about her old band on This Morning.

King was hosting the ITV flagship morning show on Wednesday (December 13) and was joined by regular ITV daytime host Andi to fill in for Dermot O'Leary. As the show came on air, both Andi and Mollie were all smiles as they welcomed viewers to the programme.

After initially explaining what was in store for the public during Wednesday's episode, attention quickly turned to Mollie's former band. Andi had previously revealed that he had no prior knowledge of The Saturdays' musical released as producers cut to a previous conversation between him and fellow bandmate Rochelle Humes.

In the awkward exchange, Andi was left shellshocked when Rochelle revealed that the group had released several albums over the course of their time together. "I didn't know, I didn't know!" Peters exclaimed as Rochelle admitted they had put out "quite a few" records.

Andi was left stunned, consistently asking: "Albums, like 'ALBUM' albums?" to which Rochelle clarified: "Yeah, I think we had three or four." As the conversation went on, Rochelle was unable to contain herself and burst into laughter as Peters was seemingly left gobsmacked at their success.

Cutting back to the studio, Mollie revealed that she had a surprise for her co-host on today's programme. "We also did a Christmas song," Mollie announced before producers started playing The Saturdays' cover of Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

Andi, bamboozled at the news, simply uttered: "What?" However, as the song was played in the studio, Andi was left unsure, and whilst his co-host tried to get him dancing to the tune, he took a rather brash tone: "I don't what this is, I don't know if I approve."

The ITV host was clearly unimpressed as he listened to more of the track, as he continually asked questions of the song. The presenter also asked whether Mollie had been given the main vocal to sing in the song, to which she replied, astonished: "It actually is, oh my god. Lead vocals, it happened once and that was it!"

But Andi was quick to add in a little sarcasm to the chat, as he quipped: "Wow, that's a great feature. You did lead vocals on the highly successful Christmas single from The Saturdays," as Mollie fought back fits of laughter.

Things did not get any easier as Andi continued: "What number did it get to?" Getting defensive, Mollie shot back: "It's not about the numbers, Andi alright? Let's not worry about the numbers, okay?

"It's about how much you're enjoying it and I can tell that you're enjoying this," Mollie continued. Andi, however, was quick to get a final dig in, saying: "So I'll have to Google the number," leaving the singer gobsmacked as Andi burst into hysterics.

As the pair steadied themselves, they asked producers to "record scratch" the song off, to which ITV bosses obliged. However, the pair described the action as "brutal" and "dramatic", with Andi joking to viewers: "I think you could tell the producers were not as big fans as I was!"

This Morning airs every weekday at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
