It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new plan for the European Super League has been revealed after the breakaway competition was given a boost by a court ruling on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and FIFA were found to have acted against competition law in their blocking of the creation of a European Super League\u00a0in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0binding ruling handed\u00a0out\u00a0marked the latest stage in a legal process initiated by the European Super League Company after clubs who participated in the breakaway plans were threatened with sanctions by the governing bodies, while they faced a barrage of overwhelming criticism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new format &#8211; which was revealed by A22 CEO Bernd Reichart &#8211; was immediately rejected by clubs including Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>It will see both a men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s competition, with 64 teams competing in the men&#8217;s and 32 in the women&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209725-12889593-image-a-16_1703158767358.jpg\" height=\"428\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The new plan for the European Super League has been revealed (pictured CEO Bernd Reichart)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209723-12889593-image-a-17_1703158781174.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It comes after a court ruled UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking its creation in 2021<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209831-12889593-image-a-18_1703158897276.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Barcelona and Real Madrid were two of the biggest proponents of the European Super League<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>In term of the men&#8217;s competition, the 64 clubs will be split into three separate leagues &#8211; star, gold and blue &#8211; with the star league the strongest and blue the weakest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The star and gold leagues will have 16 teams separated into two groups of eight, but the blue league will have 32 clubs, split across four groups of eight.<\/p>\n<h3>The 10 principles for a European Super League\u00a0<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>An open competition with several leagues based on sporting merit\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Clubs involved remain committed to national competitions\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Greater distribution of financial resources to improve competitiveness\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Health of players essential when deciding how many games played each year\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Transparent financial rules with European competitions governed by clubs, not third parties\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The aim is to create the best football competition in the world\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Improved fan experience is key<\/li>\n<li>Increased funding in women&#8217;s football to put it in spotlight alongside men&#8217;s format\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Significant increase in solidarity towards grassroots football<\/li>\n<li>Respect for EU laws and values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each team will be guaranteed 14 matches with everyone playing their group stage opponents home and away on midweek dates between September and April.<\/p>\n<p>The top four clubs from both groups in the gold and star leagues and the top two teams in the four blue groups will then take part in their respective league&#8217;s knockout stages during the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Two-legged quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place, before the winners of each league will be crowned following finals at neutral grounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan &#8211; who is also the Super League&#8217;s CEO &#8211; said: &#8216;There is big news today: Football is free. Free from the monopoly of UEFA, free to pursue the best ideas without fear of sanctions and under our proposal, free viewing of all live matches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This morning, CJEU (European Court of Justice) ended UEFA\u2019s near 70-year monopoly and opened the door to innovation in football: Clubs can now openly discuss and consider proposals to address the sport\u2019s most pressing issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The cornerstone of our proposal remains the ten principles we published in February. A couple of the principles are worth repeating: Participation will be based on sporting merit. There will be no permanent members and clubs will remain committed to their domestic leagues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The new SuperLeague format would lead to exciting matches throughout the entire year, not just part of the year. A league system with just 14 matches means that absolutely every match counts, clubs that almost never play each other will now compete regularly on the European stage generating even greater rivalry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;At the same time there is mobility between the leagues, with promotion and relegation, and with an ongoing strong connection to domestic leagues, and finally, there would be an incredible season-end knockout stage.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>But the new proposals were swiftly met with stern opposition. In a statement, Man United said:\u00a0 &#8216;Our position has not changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/13\/79212215-12889593-Bayern_Munich_CEO_Jan_Christian_Dreesen_labelled_it_an_attack_on-a-3_1703166271899.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen labelled it an &#8216;attack&#8217; on football&#8217;s current structure<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We remain fully committed to participation in UEFA competitions, and to positive cooperation with UEFA, the Premier League, and fellow clubs through the ECA on the continued development of the European game.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich condemned the proposal, labelling it as an &#8216;attack&#8217; on football&#8217;s current structure.<\/p>\n<p>Club chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said: &#8216;It&#8217;s very clear: the door for the Super League at FC Bayern remains closed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Such a competition would represent an attack on the importance of domestic leagues and the statics of European football.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Atletico Madrid also released a statement to criticise the plans, while taking a swipe at LaLiga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid, who were the two of the biggest proponents of the European Super League during it&#8217;s initial launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their statement read:\u00a0&#8216;The European football family does not want the European Super League. Germany, France, England, Italy, Spain (except for Real Madrid and Barcelona), etc. do not want the Super League&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We are in favor of protecting the European football family, safeguarding domestic leagues, and ensuring that qualification for European competitions is achieved through on-field performance every season&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LaLiga added:\u00a0&#8216;The Super League will make the rich, richer and would mean the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Today, more than ever, we reiterate that the Super League is a selfish and elitist model. Anything that is not fully open, with direct access only through the domestic leagues, season by season, is a closed format.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of the only clubs who have stuck with the Super League plans,\u00a0responded favourably to the European Court of Justice&#8217;s ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The two Spanish giants have been wholly in favour of the breakaway plans and were quick to express their delight in Thursday&#8217;s verdict, with the Catalan giants detailing their &#8216;satisfaction&#8217;
